Yesterdays blog about make-up artists got me thinking about some of the other crew jobs, like the one of soundman or boom operator.
So there I am filming a scene, watching the girls closely and what they are doing so I don't miss a great shot of something, concentrating hard on technical aspects like focus, exposure, light, shot and angle, and other things like what did I miss and might need to re-shoot, what the girls might do next, am I recording? - No! FUCK! Or something like that.
Anyway I'm in the midst of filming when I look over and the boom operator is holding the boom the wrong way around, the headphones around his neck, resting the pole on the floor and tickling one girls feet trying to put her off and just generally enjoying the show. What the fu.....
The furry mic often wonders into shot because boom operators are usually hung-over (or still drunk), aren't looking at what the camerman is doing, or haven't even plugged the headphones in with the assumption that "...it will be fine." Sub-human scum.
Who needs a job?
